Mike Toomey

Now in his 38th year of professional baseball, Mike joined the Royals in 2006 as Special Assistant to the General Manager after serving as a Pro Scout for the Washington Nationals and a National Crosschecker with the Montreal Expos. He had been with the Expos/Nationals organization since 2002 after working with Cleveland, San Francisco, Texas and the New York Mets. He also has a wealth of international scouting experience as he has scouted Japan, Korea, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Canada, Italy, Colombia and Venezuela.

Toomey began his career in Major League Baseball working in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as a minor league manager from 1980-81. Prior to that, he was the head coach at George Washington University from 1975-79, where he led the Colonials to three-straight NCAA postseason appearances. He has been inducted into the Montgomery Junior College Hall of Fame, the George Washington Hall of Fame, the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Hall of Fame and Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame.
